Burberry
At the young age of 21, apprentice draper Thomas Burberry founded his namesake brand in Basingstoke, England. The young designer rose to fame in 1879 for creating gabardine—a.k.a. the industry’s first-ever waterproof fabric. Burberry began using the ground-breaking material to craft trench coats and has since been associated with the iconic topper, along with its signature accessories and shoes. Today, Burberry is led by creative director Daniel Lee and is loved for its collection of sleek sunglasses including classic aviators, chic round frames, and more.
